The Australian Heritage Council

The Australian Heritage Council is the principal adviser to the Australian Government on heritage matters. The Council assesses nominations for the National Heritage List, and the Commonwealth Heritage List. The Minister may ask the Council for advice on action that he may take in relation to the List of Overseas Places of Historic Significance to Australia.

Today the Federal Heritage Minister announced the reappointment of Professor Carmen Lawrence as Chair of the Australian Heritage Council for a further three year term.

In response to a motion in the Senate, Minister Burke, instructed the Australian Heritage Council to undertake an emergency assessment of the outstanding universal values of the Dampier Archipelago and any threats to the site. The final report is now available online.
